Hsipaw

Formerly the seat of an old Shan kingdom, the last sawbwa, or Shan King, resided in the palace at the north end of town until 1962. Several temples can be visited as well, notably the Mahamyatmuni Paya, Hsipaw’s grandest pagoda, with a likeness of the famous Mahamuni Buddha from Mandalay; and the Bawgyo Paya can be seen just before arriving to Hsipaw from Mandalay, boasting of golden Buddha images, pillars of mirrored mosaic, and ancient statues of Hindu origin. Hsipaw’s central markets sees Shan, Kachin, and other ethnic tribes meeting for regular trade. Not far from town, a small water fall and hot springs can be reached.

How to get to Hsipaw?

Hsipaw is reachable overland by car, bus or train. Train being the slowest mode of transport. Lashio town 25km away has flight connection to Yangon couple time per week. Check updated flight schedule from Expeditions sales team.
