Kalaw

Kalaw is the ideal start point for trekking excursions through different ethnic minority villages to visit with the Danu, Palaung and Pa-O peoples. A typical trek between Kalaw to Inle Lake can take two to five days depending on how many villages one hopes to visit, meandering with moderate to easy physicality through rice paddy fields, pine forests, bamboo grooves, tea plantations and more. The views afforded are spectacular. Some paths are hidden, while other paths are well used by villagers who balance baskets of tea or rice on their heads, announcing their presence with songs as they walk. Many of the villages are accessible only by foot. The people encountered, cooler climes and rolling landscape provide a memorable trekking experience.
